About Trace ITAD
Trace is a national IT asset disposition company built on radical transparency: every asset is traceable, most of our services are free, and secure physical destruction is a flat $10 per drive.
We serve organizations across the United States with free prepaid mail-in drive kits nationwide, plus free on-site bulk pickup in select regions — and we show you exactly what happened to every asset you hand us.
Why we exist
The ITAD industry has a transparency problem. Pricing is hidden behind "request a quote" forms. Equipment disappears into a warehouse. And at the end, clients receive a single generic certificate that says everything was handled — with no way to verify what actually happened to any individual asset.
Trace flips that model. Our standard service — bulk pickup, data wiping, and chain-of-custody documentation — is free. Our one paid service, secure physical destruction, is an honest flat $10 per drive, published right on the website. And every asset gets a full per-asset trace, so you can see exactly what happened to it: destroyed, refurbished, resold, or recycled.
No hidden fees, no generic paperwork, no black box. That is the entire premise of the company — it is why we named it Trace.
How we can offer this for free
There is no catch, just a business model we are happy to explain. Much of the IT equipment organizations retire still has real market value. When your assets arrive, we test them, wipe them using methods aligned to NAID AAA / i-SIGMA specifications, and refurbish the recoverable equipment for resale on the secondary market.
The value we recover through resale is what funds your free pickup, free wiping, and free chain-of-custody documentation. In other words, we share in the resale revenue of your retired equipment instead of billing you for the service. That alignment is deliberate: the better we handle your assets, the more value we recover — and the less you ever pay.
You only pay when you require secure physical destruction of a drive, and that is a flat $10 per drive — because destroyed hardware has no resale value to offset the cost. Everything else is free.
Our standards
- Data destruction: Wiping and physical destruction methods aligned to NAID AAA / i-SIGMA specifications, documented per device.
- Chain of custody: Serialized intake, secured transport and processing, and a documented record for every asset from receipt to final disposition.
- Reuse first: Recoverable equipment is tested, wiped, refurbished, and resold — reducing e-waste and funding our free services. Non-recoverable material is responsibly recycled downstream.
- Records retention: Chain-of-custody records, sanitization logs, and destruction documentation retained for a minimum of seven years, available if your organization is ever audited.
- Insurance: Commercial general liability and cyber liability coverage. Certificate of insurance available on request.
Tracing is the difference
Anyone can hand you a certificate. We hand you a trace: a per-asset record that follows every device through our process, so you always know where it is and how it ended.

Our roots
Trace was built by the team behind an established Colorado ITAD operation, now serving organizations nationally. Years of hands-on experience testing, wiping, refurbishing, and reselling enterprise hardware are what make the free, traceable model possible — we know the equipment, we know its value, and we know how to document its journey.
